Our Nursery is a wonderful environment for any young child who wants an excellent start to their journey of learning. We offer a range of sessions, mornings or afternoons, 5 days per week. Or parents may choose to send their child for two and half days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday AM or Wednesday PM, Thursday, Friday).
We also offer 30 hours free childcare for those children whose parents are eligible.
The Nursery day starts at 8.45am to 11.45am (morning nursery) and 12pm to 3pm (afternoon nursery).
Children are safe and well cared for by our superb team of staff who are friendly and welcoming to our youngest children but also to parents and carers who may be unsure and anxious as their little ones make their first steps into their school journey.
Here at St James, we understand that the best way for children to learn is through play. Our school curriculum is designed with half termly topics that are are inspired by subjects that the children find interesting, teachers implement carefully planned activites that are designed to engage and motivate pupils whilst ensuring that their knowledge and skills are developed. As a school we have a passion for reading and therefore have a weekly book based curriculum that links to the half termly topic. We also know that children learn best when following their interests, therefore in Nursery we have a balance of teacher directed tasks and child initiated activities, which allow children to develop to their full potential. Staff spend a great deal of time play partnering with children, following their lead and identifying their interests.
Through playing with the children, staff are modelling a range of skills, developing knowledge and supporting them to achieve their next steps. This ensures that pupils progress through the education programmes of the EYFS and develop in all seven areas of learning.
The seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS are:
Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the world.
Expressive Arts and Design
We ensure that our children are included in the full life of the school, not only the physical environment but also attending assemblies and church visits for special occasions, involvement in whole school learning topics that result in lots of visitors to their classroom to share their learning!
Most of our Nursery pupils go on to attend our school but not all and we fully support all pupils in their transition to their chosen school. Attendance at our Nursery however does not automatically ensure a place in our school as Local Authority Admissions criteria apply.
If you are looking for a EYFS setting where your child develops their independence whilst in a nurturing environment, we would be delighted to meet you and encourage you to contact the school office so that a visit to the school can be arranged.
